Got my eyes wide open

Did you know we have been built with a sense of expectation?

Can any of you relate to always wanting the next best thing? As soon as something rolls off the calendar, we are longing to fill it up again We all desire to have something on our schedule to look forward to with a sense of anticipation. Graduation. Wedding Day. New Job. Date Night. Have you ever wondered why? According to Scripture, God has created our souls with a need to want only what He can give us. We have an expectation of a Messiah. We have a soul need.

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11

As a believer, we are waiting with expectation for the Messiah to return. We have a need for what’s yet to come and only God will be the ultimate fulfillment of this desire. We delight in a revelation. God has given us this longing for something more…and that longing is for eternity.

We can rejoice in a surprise.

Many of us wish we could see around the next bend. However, would life be so enchanting without the element of surprise? Can you imagine life any differently? Can you imagine if you lived your life with the foreknowledge of everything that was going to take place? Every disappointment. The outcome of every game. All the details. Various minutia. I don’t know about you…but living life as a “WAS” or a “HAS BEEN” would not be very much fun. At times, we may ask “Does life get any better than this?” You see the life we live here on earth is only a mere shadowing of what is to come.

“Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow” Psalm 144:4

Our expectation is that Jesus Christ is coming back. He has indeed gone to prepare a place for us and will return one day. The joys and pleasures of what we enjoy here on earth are only a tiny piece of what heaven will be like and we will not be let down by heaven. We will not arrive there one day and say, “Is this it? This is what I’ve been waiting for my entire life?

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4-5

Here’s the thing about God–He may at some point throw you a surprise party. However, it may not feel like a party to you! Some things may suddenly pop up in your life making no sense to you. You suddenly find yourself in a situation where you have absolutely no control. You find yourself in a position where your circumstances are too big for you. You feel like you are totally out of control! God may allow the unexpected to happen to you because He is testing and molding you. When things are totally out of control and pop instantly into your life, you may quickly realize that things are too big for you to handle. It is at these times that if we turn to God, He will do a great and mighty work.

Therefore, delight in a surprise. Delight in a revelation. God knew before the foundations of the world what we would be going through today. Keep your eyes fixed on what is ahead…reminding yourself of all He has already brought you through.

Remember, God delights in our discovery of Him.
