My husband, Dr. Coburn (“Coby”) Allen, is a Pediatric Emergency Room and Pediatric Infectious Disease physician. From time to time, he is interviewed for his medical knowledge. Since this recent interview is quite intriguing and may be coming to a mosquito near you…I thought I’d share.
We were the host family for this 6 year old girl from Haiti, along with her Papa and translator. She was born with a large vascular malformation and is receiving treatment at Dell Children’s Hospital in Austin. She lived with us for 6 weeks and we look forward to seeing her again in November. Fox 7 news did a featured story.
In August 2013, we stepped out in faith and opened up a medical clinic in the rural village of Neply, Haiti. We work alongside an incredible ministry called myLIFEspeaks. We have amazing staff that run the day to day operations of this clinic. Coby visits the clinic periodically, along with other physicians, to continue the education of his staff. Fox 7 news covered our story.
We are in the process of adopting a 2 year old boy named Comerson from Petionville, Haiti. He is in the care of Three Angel’s Children’s Relief in the meantime. We visit him as much as we can and are waiting to celebrate our “Gotcha Day.” This story was featured in the Austin Statesman.
This video from myLIFEspeaks shows our medical clinic in Haiti. We average around 30-40 patients a day. The Catholic Medical Missions Board awarded us a grant in January that greatly supplements our pharmaceutical supplies. You can live on mission right where you are…in your own backyard…and to the uttermost parts of the world.
We served alongside our missional community group to feed hungry children in East Austin for 2 years. We were blessed to be a part of Mission Possible during this time and are thrilled to see how God is using them to reach our city of Austin. Love what they are doing! This story was covered by our church, Austin Stone Community Church.
