During times of shelter-in-place and self-quarantine, I️ have seen something in us, the human race. We have worked together in such unity to fight the COVID-19 enemy much like we are in a war. In the past week, I️ have discovered zoom and 8×8 and virtual meet-ups that I️ never even knew existed. I️ have heard from friends and touched base with family much more than the norm.
CREATED FOR GOOD WORKS
And it dawned on me…there already is good coming out of this storm. We are made for this! God has purposed for us to do His work.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10
God has created us to be a light in this dark world. Practically speaking, this means spreading the joy of Jesus to those you are around. Picking up groceries. Making a phone call. Running an errand or two. It’s surprising when you pray for opportunities the doors that will open for you.
WALK IN THEM
When we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit, God will reveal the work to be done. Some tasks are small. Others are large. But all of it is God’s work, equally important. He desires to use you as his workman, to help bring salvation to this world. When you do…you might discover that God’s work brings great satisfaction and joy.
My extroverted, rambunctious child, Comerson, is struggling during this transition to social distancing. Thankfully, I️ caught a glorious glimpse of how God uses others to be His hands & feet. Yesterday, he started e-learning for school and you should’ve seen his face when he saw his teacher for the first time. It was the cutest thing!
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
In Rome, residents sang songs from their balconies to spread cheer. In America, new online communities have popped up, hosting online concerts, art classes, work-outs and more. You can gather via FaceTime to watch movies or play a board game.
Florists deliver flowers.
Favor runs errands.
Kids make cards for the elderly.
There’s no need for someone to sit home feeling isolated and lonely…God has prepared work for us to do and it’s about time we get busy doing it. The greatest work we can do is sharing Jesus with someone.
Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing. Eph. 2: 7-10 MSG
I️ would love to hear your ideas! How are you spreading #coronavirusjoy?
Prayer: Dear Jesus, Use me today as your hands and feet. Thank you for the work that you have prepared for me to do. Help me walk in them. Amen.
