School has started. Routine has begun. And yet, I find myself asking, “How do I️ keep up?” There are memos to read and notes to sign. Kids to taxi hither and fro. Lunch boxes to pack and bedtime routines to establish. I know in the back of my mind that it soon will get much easier. We will figure it out and the kids will settle in…but for now, “How do I keep up with it all”?
When You Feel Overwhelmed
There is a promise in Scripture I keep clinging to and pondering on over and over in my head. They are words that Jesus said,
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
This is a promise from God Himself, and He knew what century we would live in. He knew we would have too many cars on the road and extra-curricular activities out the wazoo. Also, He knew you would have a gaggle of kids who outnumbered your husband and you. And He knew you would feel tired even after two cups of jo in the morning, and the alarm clock was a disturbingly loud sound. Besides, He knew you much rather stay in bed than get up, just to go about it all again.
He knows everything.
And whatever it is God is calling you to do today, He will be your Provision.
When You Feel Like You Are Not Enough
I realize that I am sort of a taskmaster…I feel a sense of accomplishment when I get something completed. For some weird reason, I feel good when I cross things off my “to-do” list. Woohoo! One more thing conquered and done.
But something strange also occurs when I don’t accomplish as much as I set out to…I feel discouraged, downhearted, and frustrated inside. I feel like a failure. I’m not measuring up. This world is passing me by. How do I️ keep up?
We often measure our sense of self-worth on our accomplishments. Ugh. I still do it to this day. Hear me out here…because I know some of you can relate…God loves you anyway! He already knows that you will not accomplish everything that you have on your list. He wants to tell you that it is okay! Maybe it doesn’t need to be done. He wants you to know that you can find rest in Him. He alone is your Sabbath, come to Him. All you who are weary and burdened, lean in. Jesus is the way.
You Can Choose Rest
God knows you would not accomplish all that you set out to do and He lovingly wants you to know…You can choose rest. Lay your head on your pillow. And know that God loves you just the way you are. How do I️ keep up with all? Foremost, ask God for help.
What is one thing you can cross off your “to-do” list today?
HI Sue, Well, I don’t have school-aged kids (one daughter back to grad school and one adult daughter living/working from home), but I can identify with all the little things calling for my attention (like the dishes right now – LOL). Thanks for a reminder to rest. I wrote a book on God’s Remedy for Stress and how He wants to turn our stress into rest. Great reminder, sister.
I have been learning this lesson too. I learned to triage and pick my priorities and anything less than an 8-10 can wait if I don’t get to it.
This verse is so powerful – come to him!!! What a great reminder. Hope the year starts off great
