How many times have you started a project but never finished it? I know if you walk into my craft room one would begin to wonder what in the world is all of this stuff for? What is going on in here? I have projects that were started several years ago that still have never been completed. I have never been diagnosed with ADD, but nonetheless, there are some things that I haven’t finished.
But throughout scripture, we are reminded that we are not to give up. If God has directed you to a particular ministry or area of service, then by all means, finish the task at hand. Finish it up and finish it well!
In the New Testament, the word “sanctify” means, literally, to make holy. The word is hagiasmos. Greek words that end with “asmos” describe a process, not a one-time event. Paul is saying that when you entered the Christian life, God’s Spirit began the process of working in your life to make you holy. You took your first step on the road to holiness, and it can sometimes be a long journey. However, God intends to take you every step of the way. Paul said to the Philippians,
“I am confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
“Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2
