Tell us a little about yourself. I have taught adult Sunday School classes and worked in women’s ministry for 10+ years. I am a wife. I am a mom. And I love Jesus! I have 2 teenage daughters and a 10 year old boy. My hubby and I are also in the process of adopting a lil’ guy from Haiti. We are edgy–willing to be obedient to what God is calling us to do. This past fall, we opened up a medical clinic in the rural village of Neply, Haiti.
What was your motivation behind this project? After studying Genesis in my personal QT, I started to really identify with Eve. This girl has gone down in history for her sin…and that’s all we remember her for. We’ve labeled her for it and really haven’t “forgiven her” for the bite from the apple. It was then the Holy Spirit convicted me–I am just like Eve. I choose things over God over and over. I seek comfort and recreation rather than seeking Him with all my heart. I found myself enthralled by her and her beauty…the person that God created her to be. And it made me wonder if anyone else needed to see that too.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope that women will grow in spiritual maturity and learn to dig deep into the truths of God’s Word. There is hidden treasure in there that can be personally applied to your everyday. God wants to speak to you. He has something He wants to say. I pray that women will fall in love with God again…and learn that it is exciting to study God’s Word!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I discovered the richness of what it means to be the bride of Christ. I think as women we can really beat ourselves up, picking apart every flaw we see in ourselves and getting stuck on the treadmill of comparison. We can beat ourselves up for our past sins and imperfections. But God, He sees us so differently. He had a plan for Eve. He has a plan for me. And He has a plan to for you. We are the bride of Christ–and I was heavily impacted by what that really means!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Hands down–Beth Moore (my BFF’s and I refer to her as Bethie). She has influenced me more than any other author and I feel like I know her, although she would have no clue who I am. I also admire Timothy Keller and Francis Chan.
Anything else you’d like readers / listeners to know: Until the past couple of years, i had no clue how frequently I put the brakes on when it came down to serving God. I made quick decisions on how to spend my time and fill my calendar–without seeking any guidance from God. I’m learning to live differently. Saying yes to God…moving to a new city…adopting a son from Haiti at the age of 45…actively involved in third world country missions…I had no idea what I was missing out on by living my life under my rules and my control. If you want to see God do BIG things, it’s time you start believing and acting like He really can!
